Step Brothers trailer analysis

As soon as the trailer begins we meet two characters called Robert and Nancy, we first meet them as they are getting married. This instantly begins a connection between the characters and the audience and we want to find out more about their lives. We then instantly meet Brennan and Dale, who due to the marriage become stepbrothers. The irony is the men are around 40 but are acting the age of 5!

This attracts an audience with a childish sense of humour and a younger audience.
The use of upbeat music suggests to the audience they are not being serious, this enlightens the mood and makes the audience more excited to see the film.

Throughout the trailer close ups of the two men are used to show us the confusion and secret bond between the two. They act like enemies but in the end cannot resist being best friends due to their amount of similarities. This attracts the audience because they feel a connection between the two and want to be able to through humorous events want to watch the boys friendship grow.

When we see the close up of the man in the ground we begin to become concerned for him as he is being buried alive however it becomes obvious they are incapable of hurting each other and this makes the audience relived and want to continue watching.

Titles appear across the screen showing us who stars in Step Brothers, we learn Will Ferrel is one of the main characters who is a well known actor for comedy films therefore the audience know due to his popularity that it is most likely to be as good as his other films.
