We are first shown a close up of the main character, this straight away creates a connection with the audience and the character in order to make the audience want to learn more about the character. Another way it makes it personal to the audience is through the word "us", this makes the audience feel they have a relationship with the characters. We then see a robot which makes us as the audience intrigued to know what it is capable of doing other than talking and if it is there to help or cause problems.
Not long after we learn from close ups of the main character and a two shot of a robot and the main character that th1e robots can be violent. This makes the audience want to watch the film to find out the answers to the questions they currently have. By not letting on too much information it draws in a bigger audience.
" The year 2154" is projected across our screens to inform us this film is about the future. This then keeps the interest of sci-fi audiences. We then see burning buildings which suggests to us that in the future there shall be poverty and war. However we begin to learn in the future their are "two worlds" one for the privileged where we then see an establishing shot of a futuristic building and then we go on to see more of what the privileged are able to have, a luxury place to live with no poverty, no war and no sickness. This would stun the audience due to now around the world there is poverty war and sickness everywhere. This would make the audience want to watch it due to the fact they wish their lives could be this way. Elysium is everyone's dream world. However we then learn that most still live on earth with no health care, war all the time and poverty. This makes us as the audience wonder what it shall be like for us in the future. The trailer consists of heart felt drama as we feel for the main character who is the victim but also the hero but is also a sci-fi film with robots, machinery and space. This attracts a wide range of audiences because they are able to learn about the characters in depth but also witness multiple fight scenes etc.
