After watching this video clip we are considering using special effects in order to make the clown look more disturbing and making sure it is aware to the audience that he is an escapee and had to go through trauma. By watching the different videos it helps us to get closer to our final decision on how we want the clown to look. This is very important to us as we are trying to have a stereotypical clown with a twist because otherwise audiences shall just see it as another clown film and wont want to watch it.
Because our clown is on the run it suggests he is going through a hard time, therefore having bruises on him would make it effect because he would look rough.
After watching this tutorial I have been able to decide on what parts I shall use for the clown make up. This has been so useful because we can now begin to do the make up. We love the black around the eyes and the big mouth, however we felt the red nose is too stereotypical for a clown film which we are trying to stay away from.
when we found this video clip we loved the idea of a cut open mouth as it is scary and different, however we still wanted some stereotypes of a clown so that it attracts an audience. Although we want these stereotypes we are also looking for differences that will suit our film. Therefore by watching many different tutorials
The age between 15-29 people experience many different
changes, such as leaving school going to college then uni, falling in love,
getting married, having children etc. therefore to base them on this age is
good because they have so much going on and therefore it could lead to bad
circumstances.
They are normally aimed at groups of people these including
first dates, couples and close friends as they aren’t really films people
normally like to watch alone.
Horror films are normally aimed at the working class
community this is due to the higher levelof satisfaction middle class individuals seek when watching a film.
Stereotypically men are more likely to enjoy the horror
films becausethey enjoy the thrill and
stereotypically enjoy violence more whereas girls are more likely to be scared
and therefore not enjoy it as the worry and scare over takes them.
Because of the age they have chosen them exploring what the
world and life has to offer and then something bad captures the lives of young
adults being the same age as the characters because they are more likely to be
able to sympathise with them on their everyday life but to also be able to
explore the problems people in horror films experience and that it isn’t likely
to ever happen in real life.
Target Audience is young people, slightly more male than
female, aged 15 to 29.

Beauty and the beast is a famous fairy-tale that was first released in 1991 which made $425 million at box office. They have recently released a re make of the original film. The remake made $1.263 billion at box office. Therefore showing from these results that due to the popularity of the first film the remake made more as it has a larger target audience. children at the time of the release in 1991 will have gone to have seen the film because they would want to see if the film is as good as the original but also the younger generation of now would want to see the film as they would enjoy fairy tales.
An establishing shot is used at the begging of the trailer to show us where Belle lives. We are then introduced to Belle and her father who talks to Belle about how clever she is in this small town, by putting this dialogue at the beginning it creates an understanding for us of what Belles character is like. However after her father gets captured she then replaces where he should be to protect him. This makes us sympathise with Belle as she has given up her life and freedom for her father.
We are then introduced to the Beast through a close up of his face, this makes us question whether he is nice as he looks scary. Straight after being introduced to other characters, Lumière, Cogsworth, Chip, Mrs. Potts and Babette. Because these are pots, a candle stand a clock etc. and a beast it loses the reality however makes the film come to life more as it becomes more theatrical. The use of the music makes the film feel upbeat and happy which is good for young children as otherwise it would have been too complicated for them.
However, the romance between Belle and the Beast begins to form which makes us want to know whether they get together as it isn't stereotypical for a fairy-tale but that is what makes us want to continue to watch.
The close ups of the dancers is effective because it sets the mode for the scene to make us understand there is a big event going on. However, the mood then all comes crashing down which we are shown through the use of diegetic sound when a crowd of people all cheer together with flames. The use of the flames is effective because red and fire suggest danger and aggressiveness.
The two shot of Belle and the Beast is effective because she is looking up to Beast but no longer in fear, he is huge compared to her however this works because it shows people can love anyone no mater who they are which attracts an older audience and we hope that their love continues.
The use of editing is effective because the titles capture us into the fairy-tale " experience the tale" by making it personal to us it makes us want to continue to watch and to watch the film.
Priceless is an action but also a romantic film which attracts a wide range of audiences because it is not specific to one age group.
The use of a narrator who is also the main character is effective because we instantly feel a part of the characters life which makes it more personal and makes us want to continue to watch. We then begin to learn about the characters life.
The use of fade to black after the crash is effective because it makes us wonder if the drivers are safe and well. The title then appears across the screen "inspired by true stories" this is effective because it makes it feel more realistic. When the man finds the women it upsets us because we then feel sorry for the women but also for him as he is now stuck in a cycle of if he leaves them or helps them.
The close up his face is effective because it then makes us feel sorry for him and sympathise with him. He then begins to bond with the young girls he has found which makes us see a kind side to him as at the beginning he was aggressive and got arrested. THIS FALL- effective because it keeps the audience interested as they know when it shall be released, by having it in the middle of the clip it means they will want to continue to watch the trailer to see if it is worth watching in autumn. However, a close up shows us the man is still aggressive when he hits the man on the head with a fire extinguisher to save the girls. This is effective because it makes us release how much the girls mean to him.The use of non-diegetic music is effective as he runs because it causes suspense as we want to know what happens next. By having the titles appear across the screen saying " HOW FAR WOULD YOU G0" " WHAT PRICE WOULD YOU PAY" " TO SAVE A LIFE" by putting it in separate parts in capital letters and saying "YOU" makes it personal to the audience and makes us question if we would do the same as him to save someone we love.
At the end of the trailer the main character walks off carrying the woman in his arms, this is effective because it is a relief that he is able to get her in the end. The title then appears across the screen which makes us remember the name of the film and more likely to see it as stereotypically most people love a happy ending.
Silver linings play book is a romantic film about two people who both struggle in life but come together and make each other feel better. This makes the audience want to watch the film to see the characters fall in love but it could also be of a reassurance that they shall meet someone.
The trailer begins with a man shouting this makes us want to see if he is being serious or having a laugh as we are unaware of who this character is. We are then introduced to another character called Pat who we begin to learn gets angry easily and struggles with things through the use of sound, therefore we instantly feel sorry for him but want to find out more.
Mise en scene is used to show us the difference between day and night because of the characters outfits. When the main character, Pat wakes up his parents, sound and mise en scene are used together to show us that the boy is up at 4am, which is unusual and therefore there must be an issue.
"I hate my illness and I want to control it" this makes the audience sympathise with him as his illness is a part of him and its making him feel low, we then want to continue to watch to see if he is able to control it and become happier.
We are then introduced to a girl called Tiffany, she also has problems and we instantly begin to feel a connection between the two. The love hate relationship is shown when Tiffany says, "I have a problem? You say more inappropriate things than appropriate."
The two characters then go on a date, we as the audience are pleased for them as we wanted them to fall in love.
The use of camera is effective because it shows us the facial expressions and helps us to connect with the characters as we begin to learn how they feel about each other and things around them. Throughout the trailer the use of close ups and two shots are used to show us how they respond to each others company.
The use of the titles showing us that famous people are on it for example Jenifer Laurence attracts us as an audience to watch the film as we have seen her in other films that have been very successful.
Whiplash uses enigmas to create tension and makes audiences want to go and see the film. The use of sound, editing, camera shots and mise en scene was effective because it left us with questions and kept us interested in watching the film. The genre of the film is drama, therefore attracting many different audiences as many different ages groups would enjoy this film. However, there is romance to this film which then attracts a wider range of audiences as people who like drama or romance or both are going to want to see this, stereotypically women aren't into violent films however with the romance included it changes this.
Whiplash is about a boy who has the ambition of being one of the greatest drummers. However with this comes sacrifices. This makes us sympathise with the boy because as an audience we want him to have it all but he has to give up his girlfriend to become the best.. or does he? From the trailer we are left hoping he is able to have both, this is effective because it makes us want to watch the film.
The music teacher who aims to get the young boy to be the greatest doesn't treat him with respect and belittles him due to the power he has. This makes us feel sorry for him because he is trying to become the greatest whilst getting put down by the man. By doing this we want to watch the film to see whether the young boy over comes the verbal abuse from the teacher and becomes successful or whether the teacher wins in the end.
The music throughout the trailer is effective because it starts off upbeat but quickly changes. By the change of music it makes us realise that there shall be a shocking climax. They also use fast pace editing to create tension as it flashes through scenes with fast loud beats of the drums. However we are only hinted at the climax which is effective because it means the audiences will only find out what happens if they are to watch the film therefore leaving us with more questions.
By making the character the whole picture on the magazine cover it stands out as Deadpool was very popular when first released and still is. The use of big green writing against the red is effective because it stands out and makes us aware of what the magazine will be about.
"33 most unlikely action heroes" by having this at the top of the magazine cover this makes a wide range of audiences interested in buying this magazine as we then learn it isn't all about Deadpool as others prefer different heroes.
ACTION ISSUE- this means anyone interested in action films is then aware that it shall be full of information about new films and old films that they didn't already know and because they will want to know this before others they are more likely to buy it.
By making the background dark and gloomy it makes the actual character stand out more, this then captures the customers eye more than if the background stood out more.
Total film is a popular magazine company so by having the title of the magazine company and title of the issue of magazine it makes it effective as they are both bold and in bright green!
James Bond is popular world-wide therefore making him the front page of a magazine is going to attract a wide ranges of audiences as many different age groups shall be into his films.
By having the title JAMES BOND IS BACK at the top of the page we then want to buy the magazine to know more about what the future plans are for him as a character.
By being dressed in all black with a white background it is effective because it makes him stand out more.
The title is in bold red writing, this makes us aware of the magazine company which is very famous for its information on films which will attract an audience as there shall be other films included in the magazine.
"inside the bloodiest bond ever" this makes us have multiple questions that we need to be answered!! Therefore we are likely to buy it.
Because the magazine consists of other films they are listed down the right hand side with more intriguing information therefore for customers who are not interested in James Bond they are then able to find out about other films which then again attracts them to buy it.
The trailer begins by showing us clips off of the internet some funny some loving. This makes us question why we are seeing parts of lots of peoples lives but we then feel like it is a happy trailer due to the fact everyone in the clips look happy. However then the use of editing is used to show us the title of "ONLINE YOUR MEMORIES LAST FOREVER" this makes us think about what we have uploaded and what could be on the internet. Then more happy videos are shown which confuses us because it all seems to good to be true. "BUT SO DO YOUR MISTAKES" this is effective because we now realise it is about to go downhill and become scary...
We then begin to learn about a girl through the titles, we then see her unfortunately commit suicide, this is shocking and makes the audience feel sorry for her as we learn she committed suicide due to one post that she didn't upload. This makes the audience want to continue to watch as we want to know more about her life and how every one else has dealt with it. We begin to learn that the day on the trailer is the anniversary of the death. This makes it personal to the audience as we saw her end her own life and now we are about to witness an anniversary of her death. By making it personal towards the audience it makes us want to watch the film as we feel a connection between the audience and characters. We are then introduced to other characters who are on a video chat together. This is where it all goes wrong... The use of sound is effective as we learn that they are joined by someone else through the panic and dialogue used. When we learn that someone is on the chat that they do not know we begin to panic, however that becomes worse when we find out the person shall play a game with them for whoever put up the video. We then learn if you leave the chat you are dead! As the people leave we see them die 1 by 1. As they continue to die the music becomes more loud and dramatic and then the characters are screaming, this is effective because we fear for the next person so we cant not watch it but we are also terrified. The title then comes across the screen "THIS SPRING" this makes the audience aware of when it is and keeps them interested in watching it. However it then gets down to the last character alive, as we fear of what may happen to her she screams and then it cuts to the title of the film "UNFRIENDED" This makes us want to watch the video to see if the girl makes it out alive but also makes us aware of the film so we are more likely to go and see it.
The use of the big bold red writing is effective because it attracts the audience to want to know more about the magazine due to the fact EMPIRE is a popular magazine company.
Harry potter is known world wide therefore making him the full photo on the front of the magazine will attract fans to want to buy the magazine so they are able to find out all information possible. The title stating that it has a "massive preview special" makes people want to buy it to see if there is any other popular films in the magazine. The background is dark which makes the big white writing stand out but also makes Harry Potters eyes also stand out as he is covered in dirt and cuts.
We are able to see that Harry Potter is popular due to the fact the title of him being in the magazine is more important than wolverine and star trek who also feature on the magazine cover.
By focusing it on one person it also attracts an audience because they will then continue to look out for the magazine in the future in case a different film that they love appears on it.
Most of the writing is in yellow and then it says "Harry comes out fighting" this makes us have many questions which attracts us to buy the product as we want to know what he was fighting and why.
BLOODY HELL- this is effective because it makes the audience releasing something shocking shall be in the magazine!
The only other picture that appears on the magazine is a small picture of 3 other stars, this means that there shall be more than just Harry Potter fans reading this magazine.
By having little titles on the magazine people are more likely to pick it up to see what else is in the magazine meaning more people are likely to buy it.
Annabelle was very popular throughout many ages groups, specifically teenagers and young adults. Due to its popularity they have recently brought out a number 2. The reason it is popular throughout teenagers is because stereotypically they enjoy the thrill of being scared and friends and couples go to see them. By being released in the summer holidays this meant more people were likely to go and see it therefore they would have made more money than releasing it after everyone has gone back to school.
In the beginning of the trailer we are shown a dusty hot setting with an old car driving through, this instantly makes the audience have questions but also shows us the area is of lower class. We are then introduced to a little girl who is unable to walk normally, this makes us fear the worst as we know it is a horror and she wouldn't be able to escape if something were to happen. The close up of her face shows us she is intrigued to find out what the place is about which also makes the audience want to know more. We then have a close up of the top windows of the house, it is old fragile and looks like a house that would stereotypically be in a horror film as it is creepy!
The use of editing is used to show different scenes throughout the film without giving away too much, this assures it is not boring and keeps the audience on their toes throughout.
The long shot shows us the surroundings of where the young girl is, this creates tension because it is dark, gloomy and there is no other house in sight.
The young girl discovers there is a girl standing in one of the rooms alone, as she slowly walks up to see if she is ok we begin to become concerned for both girls as nothing is ever as it seems in a horror film. When the girl instantly turns round we see a close up of a scary face that is not the girls, by editing it to make it all go so quickly it makes us question what happened to the little girl and who has taken over the girls body, we then see the wriggling hand as the other girl tries to escape this makes us have even more questions!
An establishing shot is then used to show us more of the surroundings of the house, because we have just realised that there is something unusual in the house we then see how if the other girl tries to escape there is no where near to communicate with anyone.
The trailer begins with a long/establishing shot to set the scene and to show us that it shall be about war. The use of the characters walking whilst the posters float down to the floor is effective because it shows us that all of the surroundings has been effected by this war and there is no escape. This makes the audience sympathise with the characters as they fight on to save the country.
A close up is then used to see the saddened soldiers who now have to set the bodies out to float away, knowing that could be them at any point. This is effective because it shows the brutal truth of war.
The use of sound is effective in the trailer when the bombs are set off because it creates tension and also makes the audience worry as we know many of these bombs shall kill people.
The only safety many of these men have are to be under the water when a bomb goes off this is heart wrenching for the audience because we feel sorry for the fact they are put into this line of work at such young ages just to save people like us.
The close up of the freezing cold man as he sits shivering is effective because it makes us have multiple questions and sympathise with him.
The film is set in 1940, many people who survived Dunkirk are still alive today or have relatives that were in the Battle of Dunkirk, by making a film based on the true events it makes a wide range of audiences want to watch the film. The film was released in summer, this is effective because it then means families are able to watch it together and because it isn't set at a particular age range it means more families are likely to see it.
"There's no hiding from this son", this shows us that when the Battle of Dunkirk happened in 1940 young men were forced to fight and there was no escaping from this. This makes the audience want to watch the film to know whether the character gets out alive or not.
The use of editing throughout the trailer is effective because it flashes between scenes to show the audience the intense scenes that shall commence however doesn't give too much away otherwise this would ruin it and they wouldn't go and see the film.
The use of the titles "survival is victory" is powerful because it shows us its not about winning the Battle its about surviving and being able to return to families is most important to them.
When all the men get down together in hope they shall not be hit the use of the mid shot is effective because it shows us how many men could potentially die in any one second.
The trailer ends with the title this is effective because it makes us remember the title of the film which leads on to say it is released in summer 2017 which keeps people interested in watching it.
