Analysing IT

IT was originally made in 1990 however it was a mini TV series. Now they have made a remake of the TV series into a film.

The IT trailer shows a child chasing a boat down the road he lives on however as he is running he underestimates the height of something in the road and falls over. Because of the weather and the flow of water running down to the drain the boat continues to float. It then falls down the drain. This is when we first witness the clown. The use of sound and cutting of scenes shows the audience that it is a horror film. Another factor that shows the audience it is a horror film is the boys yellow coat. This is because yellow is a very bright and vibrant colour, however it shows innocence because when an individual thinks of yellow they think happy and soft so the boy wearing it whilst his surroundings are dark shows he is fragile and innocent.

Red stereotypically suggests danger and fear so the use of the floating red balloon shows to us that the children should be concerned but also shows the audience that this balloon shall have more meaning than we are first shown.

Throughout the trailer the use of editing is used to create suspense. It is done by cutting from one scene to another but also by the end it is used to cut to new photos and then closer on the photo to slowly showing us the clown by getting closer to what looks like a bride but is actually the clown. By doing this it makes the audiences heart race and become concerned for the children.

By adding in titles at the end saying "WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?" makes it personal to the audience which makes the audience want to watch it more because it has become part of their interest and they are now worried for the children and want to see who survives.

The title 'IT' at the end in bright red represents blood. This is effective because it makes the audience want to know more. It is also effective because this type of title was used more in the 90's which was when the original was made so it attracts the older audience who previously watched the original.

By remaking IT, it has enabled to attract a young audience who are into clowns and horrors etc. but alo attract the original audience so they are more likely to be successful.
