Elysium trailer analysis

We are first shown a close up of the main character, this straight away creates a connection with the audience and the character in order to make the audience want to learn more about the character. Another way it makes it personal to the audience is through the word "us", this makes the audience feel they have a relationship with the characters. We then see a robot which makes us as the audience intrigued to know what it is capable of doing other than talking and if it is there to help or cause problems.

Not long after we learn from close ups of the main character and a two shot of a robot and the main character that th1e robots can be violent. This makes the audience want to watch the film to find out the answers to the questions they currently have. By not letting on too much information it draws in a bigger audience.

" The year 2154" is projected across our screens to inform us this film is about the future. This then keeps the interest of sci-fi audiences. We then see burning buildings which suggests to us that in the future there shall be poverty and war. However we begin to learn in the future their are "two worlds" one for the privileged where we then see an establishing shot of a futuristic building and then we go on to see more of what the privileged are able to have, a luxury place to live with no poverty, no war and no sickness. This would stun the audience due to now around the world there is poverty war and sickness everywhere. This would make the audience want to watch it due to the fact they wish their lives could be this way. Elysium is everyone's dream world. However we then learn that most still live on earth with no health care, war all the time and poverty.  This makes us as the audience wonder what it shall be like for us in the future. The trailer consists of heart felt drama as we feel for the main character who is the victim but also the hero but is also a sci-fi film with robots, machinery and space. This attracts a wide range of audiences because they are able to learn about the characters in depth but also witness multiple fight scenes etc.

Analysing IT

IT was originally made in 1990 however it was a mini TV series. Now they have made a remake of the TV series into a film.

The IT trailer shows a child chasing a boat down the road he lives on however as he is running he underestimates the height of something in the road and falls over. Because of the weather and the flow of water running down to the drain the boat continues to float. It then falls down the drain. This is when we first witness the clown. The use of sound and cutting of scenes shows the audience that it is a horror film. Another factor that shows the audience it is a horror film is the boys yellow coat. This is because yellow is a very bright and vibrant colour, however it shows innocence because when an individual thinks of yellow they think happy and soft so the boy wearing it whilst his surroundings are dark shows he is fragile and innocent.

Red stereotypically suggests danger and fear so the use of the floating red balloon shows to us that the children should be concerned but also shows the audience that this balloon shall have more meaning than we are first shown.

Throughout the trailer the use of editing is used to create suspense. It is done by cutting from one scene to another but also by the end it is used to cut to new photos and then closer on the photo to slowly showing us the clown by getting closer to what looks like a bride but is actually the clown. By doing this it makes the audiences heart race and become concerned for the children.

By adding in titles at the end saying "WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?" makes it personal to the audience which makes the audience want to watch it more because it has become part of their interest and they are now worried for the children and want to see who survives.

The title 'IT' at the end in bright red represents blood. This is effective because it makes the audience want to know more. It is also effective because this type of title was used more in the 90's which was when the original was made so it attracts the older audience who previously watched the original.

By remaking IT, it has enabled to attract a young audience who are into clowns and horrors etc. but alo attract the original audience so they are more likely to be successful.

Trailer analysis - Notting Hill

Notting Hill is a romantic comedy that consists of many stereotypes that are typically shown in romantic comedies. We are introduced to the two characters at the beginning of the trailer, it shows us that the women is "the most beautiful woman on the planet" where as the male character is "least successful shop keeper in  Notting hill" this shows us that they are completely different people straight away. By making the audience see that they are completely different it shows there is a reason they are connected. They meet by accident and end up falling in love, this is very stereotypically in a romantic film. We then meet the best friend of the man who is in the film to make people laugh this is shown when he eats mayonnaise believing it is yoghurt shows us he isn't very well educated but to the audience this is funny.
The target audience is women between 13-18 year old girls and potentially older. In a romantic comedy there is stereotypically a couple who don't have the same status in society, in Notting Hill this happens between the two main characters. The women in Notting Hill she is an high end actress who is well known where as he works in a little shop and is basically a nobody. By using the two characters who live very different lives but fall in love it shows the audience that anyone can fall in love and money and fame shouldn't come in between being with the person you love. Notting Hill has similar characteristics as The Notebook, with that comes a rich girl and poor boy too. They show this in many films to draw in a big audience of women and to make them feel better about who they have fallen in love with.

In the trailer a voice over is used to tell the story of two young people falling in love but also because it makes it easier for the audience to understand and also engage them more.

The reason that they put the actor/actress' name and the title of the film at the end is because they draw their target audience in throughout the trailer and then at the end put the title of the film to make audiences able to remember it so they will go watch the actual film.

Digital technology

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

In the planning of our film we made a story board, we made this by using an iPhone. We created the characters through an app to make it into a little clip to simply show individuals what the film shall include. After creating the characters we then made it into a video. This was good because it was easy to understand and stood out because it wasn't just drawn on paper so this made it effective.

We then also found out about special effects we could use for our characters in the film, we looked at make up special effects to see how we could make the creepy figure look more creepy and less human.

What software was used?

To edit our story board and film we used "Adobe premiere elements 10". This was because it enabled us to put the pictures together from the app we used for the story board to turn it into a clip. Adobe gave us many new opportunities because when we first created the pictures for the story board we were unaware of how to make it into a clip.
When editing the film we had to make sure that each scene ran smoothly into the next so we used the transitions to create this. We also were able to crop parts out of the clips made because we filmed the clips from different angles.  By adding all of the clips onto the software it gave us the chance to see what parts would work well and which parts were not needed in the final film. We did this by adding parts into the film and seeing whether they ran smoothly and made sense because although we knew what was going on in the film we had to remember that it would be the audiences first time watching the film so they wouldn't understand if a new character came on the scene and not be explained who they are.

What equipment was used?
To make our final film we used an iPhone, different camera lenses,  a tripod and a selfie stick. We used the iPhone 6 because it has a high definition camera and we all have phones so this was easy to use. We used different camera lenses to see which one was most effective however we chose one that looked realistic and clear to see through. However we were going to use a fishbowl effect to make it look like the audience were watching it through the character Charlottes eye, but this didn't look realistic so we tried to show it from her perspective but also from a third person because we were then able to see her reaction to the circumstances too. We used a tripod to make sure when recording it didn't shake around as this would make it look less professional. We used the selfie stick so that we could get the audience to see Charlottes reactions. This made it effective because it enabled the audience to sympathise with her but also keep them entertained because they will want to find out what happens to her.

What were the technical pros and cons of the software and hardware?
The pros of software were that it enabled us to create the story better for the characters, this was because we used Adobe it helped the story to run smoothly running from once scene to another. We were also able to cut parts out and add other parts in due to adobe. The use of the software meant we learnt many new skills because before I was unaware of how to edit films or even little clips like the story board.
The cons of the software was that it continued to freeze when we were trying to edit which meant it was hard to know if the clip would flow perfectly after spending hours editing it. When we tried to watch our film all the way through when we had edited little parts it froze and we could not watch it all which meant we would not know if the final production was good until we uploaded it on YouTube.
The pros of the hardware is that because as a group we already have phones we were able to use an iPhone 6 which has a high definition camera so we had access to this which meant we were able to produce a high definition film which attracts more of an audience. Many people now will only watch films that are made in a high definition because technology is constantly improving so they have become use to a standard and will not watch lower than this standard set.
The cons of hardware is that because we were filming a lot of clips and filming the characters from different angles it took up a lot of storage because we also used an app to create the story board so this took up even more storage. Because of this we had to watch through the clips and if they were not good enough or we believed we could do better we would have to delete them and hope we made the right decision.

In what ways was technology used to create the production?
We used software and hardware to create our final production. We used an iPhone 6 to film our production because it has a high definition camera but also used new lenses on top of that to create the highest definition possible.
We also used the computer using Adobe software to edit the film.
